Life after The Gathering

If you entered the creative competitions at The Gathering - or if you missed the deadline - and you're looking for more parties with creative competitions, read on!

The Gathering is over for now, and the Creativia crew would once again want to thank everyone who contributed in the compos and made this TG one of the best ever! If you liked the friendly and creative atmosphere in our Creative Lounge, we've got a tip for you: Go to demo parties! If you've never been to a demo party before, it's about time. Demo parties are all about funny, friendly and wacky people getting together to compare skills in creative competitions like the ones we have at TG, and of course to socialize and meet old and new friends. Here are a few tips:

Solskogen

Solskogen is an almost-annual event held in the summer near Ås, about 30 km south of Oslo. First held in 2002, Solskogen is organized by several current and previous crew members from The Gathering, and draws visitors from several European countries. This year's Solskogen will take place from the 16th to the 18th of July. With free barbecue, party tents and several creative compos, Solskogen has quickly become an important summer party for demosceners. Please note that Solskogen has a lower age limit of 18 years, as drinking alcohol is allowed on the premises. Everyone who passed the Newbie Challenge at TG, and had their compo entry shown, will receive a free ticket to Solskogen. We will get back to you on this later.

Kindergarden

Kindergarden is one of the oldest demo parties in Norway, having been held in different venues since 1995. Traditionally an Amiga party, Kindergarden now has a wide variety of competitions, open for different platforms. Kindergarden is held at Haga, about 35 km north-east of Oslo on the weekend between the 5th and 7th of november. Like Solskogen, Kindergarden is organized by several crew members from The Gathering. Also like Solskogen, Kindergarden has a lower age limit of 18 years as alcohol is allowed on the premises.

Assembly

The simplest way to explain Assembly is "it's Finland's TG". Just like The Gathering, Assembly started up as a demo party in 1992. Since then, it has evolved into a huge computer party for demosceners, gamers, and just about anyone who thinks that parties like TG is a great way to spend a week of their vacation. Held in the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Assembly takes place in August.

For more information about upcoming demo parties across the world, it's a good idea to check out http://www.demoparty.net regularly. It's usually pretty simple to find someone to travel with, and a good place to start looking for travel partners (at least if you're Norwegian) is the forums at http://www.demoscene.no/forum/
