Internet link: Massive increase from last year

This year The Gathering will have a delivered capacity of 30Gbit/sec. This is six as fast as the capacity of last year’s event of 5Gbit/sec.

The capacity will be transferred over a 40Gbit/s link from Ventelo. As Ventelo is one of the first internet service providers in Norway who have implemented IPv6, IPv6 connectivity is also included in the deal.

The Gathering aims to improve from event to event. The capacity of this year’s event is a great improvement from last years’ event, and I’m certain that this will be well received by our participants, says Marcus Sæthershagen, organizer for the technical part of The Gathering.

How does this translate to the participants?

30Gbit/sec is equal to the access capacity of 15.000 homes, and makes it possible for over 5500 users to run both World of Warcraft and Spotify simultaneously – lag free.
