Sound at The Gathering
The gathering is an event with a lot of people and a lot of sound. We've gotten several requests asking if some areas of the ship are more quiet than others, and we'll try to answer this now, as well as letting you know which areas will be colder than others.
The green color on this map marks the sound from the stage, and the blue color marks the areas affected by cool air from airing. It's worth noting that this does not mean that the rest of the arena will be silent. The green fields show where the sound from the stage will be most prominent, and none of the other sound-sources are shown. We aim to give the best sound experience to the participants in front of the stage, while still keeping the sound level below 103dB. This is the upper limit for sound set by those responsible for the stage, and it has been kept the last three years.
Additionally, a lot of participants bring their own speakers, thus we're expecting the sound level to be fairly loud during all hours. The ceiling announcement system will also be used to relay imporant messages and sometimes play a bit of music.
Keep in mind that we have moved the ventilation this year. It will commence from the northeastern bend. We expect this to be a good ventilation solution as well as keeping the number of frozen participants to a minimum. This means that the north and south entrances won't be as cold as earlier years, but some draft may occur. We're putting up wind screens to ensure the comfort of the participants in these areas
