This year we have a recruitment stand at The Gathering where companies get to inform skilled and interested geeks about job opportunities in their companies.

We had a chat with Ole André Vadla Ravnås and Kjetil Smith who was at the recruit stand to tell us more about recruiting geeks for future careers in their company, TANDBERG.

TANDBERG is a provider of visual communication products and services that caters to the corporate world and government agencies and among their clients are President Bush, President Putin, the US army, the US prison department, Google, UN and Jack Bauer in 24. They are the world leader in their field with a 38% share of the market.

They don't cater to the home market and don't have any immediate plans to do so either, but maybe as the PC market advances, there will be a chance they will at some point in the future.

The R&D department of TANDBERG is based at Lysaker and employs around 230 engineers focusing on hardware, mechanics and software development. (Worldwide TANDBERG has nearly 1000 employees and offices in 90 countries).

-We're trying to inspire young people who are interested in computing and especially programming and experienced programmers that are looking for a job to apply for a job with us because we want employees that are really dedicated and interested in what they do for a living, said Ole André who's a developer with the company and work at the stand here as well as being a regular participant.

He continues, -we're looking for all sorts of programmers and developers for different platforms such as OS X, Windows and Linux and the fact that developers are dedicated and loves what they're doing and is able to do a good job is a lot more important to us than a formal education.

He then added that TANDBERG emphasizes a lot on the social aspect as well and that the work environment is really informal and relaxed where everybody can feel welcome and be taken seriously no matter if they hold a pHD or never finished high school.
