Flames and Super Mario by violin at TG

21. Feb 19:34 / Stian Johansen

Previous years the opening shows included a range of performers from rope artists to Norwegian politicians. This year, game music performed by orchestra and fuel bombs are in focus by the arrangement team, who promise the best opening show ever at The Gathering.

Jørgen Vigdal (24) is responsible for the stage at TG, and can reveal that this years show will include music, dance and pyrotechnics.

- I am involved in this years opening show as well, and I must say that we have worked really hard to get this to work.

We have also tried to get as many volunteers as possible to join us in this project, which we hope will please all the participants either they like music, effects, lighting or dance.

Vigdal also reveals that they have had an exciting cooperation with the Norwegian Armed Forces, without giving away too many details.

Computer games and German occupation
The director of this years opening show, Jerry Patrik Buhaj says roughly 40 artists will be on stage, in a vast cooperative project with him, many of Scandinavia's best dancers and choreographers, «Norsk Ungdomssymfoniorkester»(«The Norwegian Youth Symphony Orchestra») and the above mentioned Norwegian Armed Forces.

-We have made a theatrical performance based on the theme music from six of the most popular computer games in the world, and have stitched together a story containing a range of events from medieval knighthood to the German occupation of Norway during WW2, and the Norwegian resistance force during the same period.

Buhaj will not reveal who the victors will turn out to be, but says
that he is looking forward to the show.

- It will definitely be the biggest show ever at TG.

100 musicians on stage

Orchestra manager Terje Winther says «Norsk Ungdomssymfoniorkester» joins in with about 100 musicians for the opening event. The youth orchestra consists of the very best Norwegian talents from 13 to 20 years of age. At TG, they will play spectacular classical music as well as well-known theme music from the game- and media world.
-Orchestral music is a very much alive media in todays internet society, and will be very interesting to play it live at TG, says the manager.

Winther finds it positive that young people gather to do something together.
-This is not some bunch of worn out people doing anything wrong. Here are many of our future leaders, politicians and economists, and we got to have faith in them!

New elements and old heroes

Founder and Core:Organizer Vegard Sjefstad is more than satisfied with this years opening show.
-It's cool, and challenges the participants in a good way, by surprising them of what they actually can experience.
He points out that the opening will include new and exciting elements, important points according to Skjefstad himself.
-Even if one has a few years of experience it's always important to do something fresh and surprising, says Skjefstad, hoping the show can inspire participants to finding new things to do at TG.
-This may also be a part of this years' theme, to develop a new dimension of what you can do at TG.

An old hero from one of the first TG's will also appear this year, he says.

- This is a person of many talents, who knows how to program, create graphics and compose catchy music.

Who this person is, the TG founder won't reveal.

Please contact our Press Crew, represented by Simon Valvik, if you have questions regarding the opening show.
