Our tax case is progressing

The ticket prices at The Gathering has increased significantly since last year. The Norwegian tax authorities has threatened to make The Gathering obliged to pay taxes, despite the fact that we insist that The Gathering is a cultural happening.

– The fact that the media now focus their attention towards this case shows us that it is important for our society. Each year thousands of computer parties are held in Norway. If they are forced to pay tax there will be a lot of paperwork, higher expenses and less people who volunteer to work for free, says vice-chairman in KANDU and secretary-general in Hyperion, Andreas-Johann Ulvestad.

During The Gathering, Erlend Sand Bruer, chairman in Hyperion and Pål Eivind J Nes, chairman in KANDU, will hold a speech on the tax-case. There will also be a petition on The Gathering and on KANDU's own homepages.

– No politicians have disagreed with us, and no youth organizations that we have spoken with have said they won’t support us. Both the National Council for Norwegian Child- and Youth organizations (Landsrådet for Norges Barne- og Ungdomsorganisasjoner) and Voluntary in Norway (Frivillighet Norge) support our case. If the bureaucrats who only want us to pay more taxes let go of their narrow opinion, we will win this case, Ulvestad said.
