Hey, I've used "hafta" before :). It's one of many fun ways for Americans to mess with the English language.
But anyway, I agree with your comments on smoking. At NAID, the French-speaking Quebec people did not seem to have a word for "lung cancer" or "emphysema", and so smoking was allowed inside the college and it was often hard to get a breath of fresh air during the major compos. Especially if there are going to be a lot of 15-year old Quake players - you don't want to make a bad impression on the children :).
