Competitions
The annual creative competitions at The Gathering are your unique chance to show or play your masterpiece to a large audience on one of the best audio and video systems in the country. You'll get a live reaction and feedback from a crowd of inspired fans, and have a chance to win great prizes.
This is a list of the creative competitions that will be held at The Gathering 2013. You can start working on your entry right away (except in the Fast and Themed compos)!
Detailed descriptions of the compos and rules will be published later.
More compos may be announced later.
Traditional demoscene compos:
- Demo
Where teamwork, adept skills and long nights become mindblowing entertainment. Create an executable showdown of your graphic, music and programming skills combined and become demoscene legends. - Intro
Where demos go really tiny, 64 kB or less. How many bytes do you need to rock the big screen? Is 4 the new 64? - Fast Intro
8 hours, 3 crazy themes, 137 warnings, 0 errors.
Video:
- Freestyle Video
For animation, editing, direction and innovation worthy of more than YouTube.
Graphics:
- Freestyle Graphics
Art by pixel, all tools allowed. - Rendered Graphics
Art by 3D modelling, texturing, lighting and rendering. - MS Paint
Because brushes, layers and fancy effects are for wimps! - Fast Graphics
Three themes, three hours, millions of pixels. - Themed Photo Manipulation
We give you five stock photos, you use at least three of them to create an image. - Photo
Capture a moment in time for everyone to enjoy.
Programming:
- NGA Game Development
Develop a game and present it on the stage. - NGA Fast Game Development
Create a small game based on some themes in a short amount of time. - AI Programming (this compo is the continuation of the compo previously known as Hardcore Programming)
Create an artificial intelligence and let it battle your contestants on the big screen. The compo case and development kit will be released before the party. - TG Programming Championship
Flex your biggest algorithmic muscles in order to solve a difficult problem. - Useless Utility
Usable, but useless. To be truly useless, an entry must have no possibilities for benificial use. - Small HTML
Dirty hacks beyond quirks mode. Make an HTML-page as small as you can (in terms of bytes) while it still displays the same image in the browser. Assignment is released at the party. - Useful Phone Utility
Apps developed in HTML5 wil work on any device that has a browser. If you take part in the compo you can take a shot at making a useful HTML5 app, that will make the users' lives easier and/or more fun. - Hacking competition
The competition consists of many different tasks in information security. Can you hack your way through?
Music:
- Freestyle Music
Your original track, played out loud for the first time to a large audience. - Fast Remix
We'll provide a track, you'll do a remix. Fast. - Executable Music
Make a track that is generated in realtime in less than 32 kB
Other:
- Powerup in the game of life!
With competition "Powerup in the game of life!" we want to stimulate the development of completely new and fresh proposals for health care solutions. Deliver your idea!
