Fast Remix

We provide a track - you do a remix. In 6 hours.

The rules in this competition are simple, but the results can be impressive: We publish a song along with the samples used to make it. You will then have six hours to create your own interpretation of the song, using any tools you have.

Rules

  1. Hand-in

    • Entries in the music competitions must be delivered through the web-based compo system.
    • All entries must be delivered as a Zip or Rar file containing the track itself and a short text file (file_id.diz/.nfo/.txt) with information about the entry (author, track name, additional credits) as well as contact info.
    • You should also consider handing in a fifteen (15) second sample (MP3), that represents your track. This sample will be made available in the voting system directly after the compo.
  2. Mandatory use of the content provided (the remix kit)

The entry must contain recognizable parts of the original track, either sampled from the provided audio or recreated.

Cover versions will be allowed, for those who feel they can do better than the original artist. Even so, it must be possible to recognize the original track. Translating the lyrics to Klingon and singing them to another melody will not be accepted (and will be considered a criminal offense, punishable by Vulcan death grip).

Submitting three minutes of white noise stating that it represents your artistic interpretation of the original track is certain to get you disqualified.

  3.  Pre-selection

This is a fun compo, and we will try to play all entries for the audience. If there are more entries than we have time for, we might cut tracks based on our own perception of entertainment value and production quality

  4. Allowed formats

    • MP3
    • Ogg Vorbis

Other file formats are not allowed, and will result in a disqualification!

Do yourself and everyone else a favor, and use a quality encoder with high bitrate settings. Your track will sound better, so don't be cheap. Don't forget to tag your file properly! Please complete the ID3 tag or OGG file info with as much detail as possible.

  5. Use of copyrighted material

The entry is to be considered royalty free. Use of unlicensed samples is not allowed! Any participant must be ready to provide documentation that samples used are licensed for use and publication. Failing to provide such documentation upon request will result in disqualification of the entry.

You are obviously allowed to use any material in the remix kit we give you for the compo.

  6. Maximum length (compo edit)

    Three (3) minutes.

Don't take this as an obligation to actually fill three minutes. Six hours is not a lot of time to do a remix, and repeating the same content for most of the track will bore the audience (and us) to death

  7. Deciding a winner

The winner will be chosen by popular vote.
