Create an awesome picture by the means of modelling.

Former winners

(Between 2005 and 2009 there was not held separate competitions for rendered graphics.)

Rules

  1. Hand-in

Entries in the rendered graphics competition must be delivered through the web-based compo system as a ZIP or RAR archive containing the following items:

    • A rendered version of the picture in full resolution.
    • A wireframe render of the picture.
    • A render of the picture without textures.

Remember that the handin must be a rendered picture, NOT the scene/meshes.

  2. Allowed formats

    • PNG (.png)
    • JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg)

We recommend that you deliver your entry as PNG, as it is a lossless format. If you want to deliver your entry as JPEG that's naturally fine with us, but don't be cheap on the quality setting.

  3. Non-rendered elements

You are allowed to place your signature on the finished picture. This does not have be rendered, and can be composited into the picture using a graphics program of your choice.

Apart from that, there should not be any scanned or pixeled elements in the picture, with exception for textures only. However:

    • You are allowed to render your scene in layers and compose these in another tool. However, all layers must be rendered.
    • You are allowed to do cropping and resizing of layers.
    • You are allowed to do minor color adjustments to your layers.
  4. Originality

    • Only objects made by the artist may be used.
    • Meshes/scene should be available at request (for the jury).
    • You are not allowed to use elements for textures that you have not made (or photographed) yourself

Specifically, we do not allow images competing in the Freestyle Graphics competition to enter this competition.

  5. Pre-selection

A jury will select a maximum of 25 pictures to be displayed during the show. The jury's decicion is final, and there is no room for appeals.

Pictures not selected for the show can not be voted for.

  6. Deciding a winner

The winner will be chosen from a combination of popular vote and jury vote. The popular vote will account for 67% of the total score, and the jury vote will account for 33%.

  7. Number of entries per participant

One entry per participant. Co-productions are allowed. If multiple people cooperate on a picture, neither will be allowed to hand in other pictures.

  8. No-go limit

The compo will be held if we receive 3 or more entries. If not, this compo may be combined with the Freestyle Graphics compo.

  9. General rules

The general rules for the Gathering 2010 creative competitions apply to this compo.
