Rendered Graphics

Skip straight to the rules

Create an awesome picture by the means of modelling.

Great Rendered Graphics entries from previous years

Former winners

The rendered graphics competition has been dormant for a few years, but oldies are goldies:

Rules

  1. Hand-in

Entries in the demo competition must be delivered through the web-based compo system as a ZIP or RAR archive containing the following items:

    • A compo version of the picture, without signature and in full resolution.
    • A release version of the picture, signed and in full resolution.
    • At least three in-progress pictures, showing the workflow.

Remember that the handin must be a rendered picture, NOT the scene/meshes.

    Filenames

The files in the uploaded archive should be named like this:

    • Signed version: Title-Yourname.png/jpg
    • Unsigned version: Title-unsigned.png/jpg
    • In-progress pictures: Title-WIP-xx.jpg, where xx states the stage (lowest number, earliest stage).
  2. Allowed formats

    • PNG (.png)
    • JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg)

We recommend that you deliver your entry as PNG, as it is a lossless format. If you want to deliver your entry as JPEG that's naturally fine with us, but don't be cheap on the quality setting.

In progress pictures should be in JPEG format.

  3. Non-rendered elements

There should not be scanned or pixeled elements in the picture, with exception for textures and signature only.
    However:

    • You are allowed to render your scene in layers and compose these in another tool. However, all layers must be rendered.
    • You are allowed to do croping and resizing of layers.
    • You are allowed to do minor color adjustments to your layers.
  4. Originality

    • Only objects made by the artist may be used.
    • Meshes/scene should be available at request (for the jury).
    • You are not allowed to use elements for textures that you have not made (or photographed) yourself

Specifically, we do not allow images competing in the Freestyle Graphics competition to enter this competition.
  5. Pre-selection

A jury will select a maximum of 25 pictures to be displayed during the show. The jury's decicion is final, and there is no room for appeals.

Pictures not selected for the show can not be voted for.

  6. Deciding a winner

The winner will be chosen from a combination from popular vote and jury vote. The popular vote will account for 67% of the total score, and the jury vote will account for 33%.

  7. Number of entries per participant

One entry per participant. Co-productions are allowed. If multiple people cooperate on a picture, neither will be allowed to hand in other pictures.

  8. No-go limit

The compo will be held if we receive 3 or more entries. If not, this compo may be combined with the Freestyle Graphics compo.

  9. General rules

The general rules for the Gathering 2009 creative competitions apply to this compo.

Deadline

The deadline will be announced later.
