Machinima

Skip straight to the rules

Create a video using footage from a game engine. Direct, edit, add voices and music and tell your very own story.

Rules

  1. Hand-in

Entries in the competition must be registered through the web-based compo system, and can be delivered through this system as well.

If you really want to make us happy, please hand in a Zip or Rar file containing the entry itself and a short text file (file_id.diz/.nfo/.txt) with information about the entry (author, name, additional credits) as well as contact info.

    Delivery on physical media

Because videos tend to have huge filesizes we allow delivery of entries on physical media for the Machinima competition. If this applies to your entry, make sure to follow these guidelines:

    • Before delivering your entry you must register it in the web-based compo system.
    • You can deliver a CD or DVD with your entry on it either directly to the Event:Creativia crew (you can find us in the workshop) or to the info-desk.
    • Make sure that you label the disc with your name, the entry name and the entry-id you get when registering the entry. We will not accept any responsibility for entries lost due to delivery of unlabeled discs.
    • Please observe that even though you are allowed to deliver your entry on DVD it should still be in one of the allowed formats for this competition. We will rip your DVD and convert it to a video file for you.

    Wanted content

This compo is open for short films, musicvideos or otherwise artistic content only.

This compo is not open to fragmovies or pure stunt movies.

    Allowed formats

    • XviD/DivX (.avi)
    • Mpeg2 (.mpg)

Other video formats are not allowed, and will result in a disqualification.

  2. Pre-selection

A jury will select a maximum of ten (10) entries to be showed to the public. The jury's decicion is final, and there is no room for appeals.

Entries not selected for the show can not be voted for.

  3. Deciding a winner

The winner will be chosen by combining the results from the popular vote with a jury vote. The popular vote will account for 67% of the total score, and the jury vote will account for 33%.

  4. Use of copyrighted material

Use of copyrighted material is not allowed (this goes for the soundtrack as well). Any participant must be ready to provide documentation that the material used is either your own or released under a license that allows its use (ie., some Creative Commons-licenses, or material in the public domain). Failing to provide such documentation upon request will result in disqualification of the entry.

If you are in doubt, ask someone from the compo crew before the deadline (that way, you will have time to remove any problematic content before submitting).

  5. Maximum display time

    Eight (8) minutes..

Note that this is not a limit on the entry itself, but we will not play more than eight minutes of the entry no matter how good it is. If your movie is longer than this, we recommend that you make an excerpt yourself, in stead of having us choose which eight minutes of your movie are the best part.

  6. No-go limit

The compo will be held if we receive 3 or more entries.

If we recieve fewer entry, this compo may be combined with the Wild compo.

  7. General rules

The general rules for the Gathering 2009 creative competitions apply to this compo.
