Solder ahoy!

There was soldering and thinking going on when the University of Oslo arranged a competition in microcontroller building on Friday.

A microcontroller is a digital device like a microchip.
The microcontroller is programmable, and only the imagination sets the limits for what this device can do. Microcontrollers are used within all types of digital technology and measuring techniques today, and will be replaced by the nanocontrollers in the future.

At UiOs stand, the participants were challenged to build the most impressive device by the use of a microcontroller.

In the preliminary rounds, three winners qualified to compete in “The Ultimate Game Design Showdown”. Whoever gets away with first place will win 4 servos that they can use to make so called “walkers”, e.g. robots with movement.

UiO tells us that they’re also going to hold a competition they’ve called “LED Mayhem”. There the users will solder their own circuit-cards, and implement whatever they want to.
