We strongly recommend that you update your operating system and protect your Windows-PC. Here's a little guide from us to you!

#1 Update your operating system

Download the last service pack for your operating system:
Windows 2000 SP4
Windows XP SP2

When it's done, download security updates for your operating system.
windowsupdate.microsoft.com

#2 Firewall

When you installed service pack 2(SP2) for Windows XP, you got Windows' firewall. We strongly recommend that you turn on the firewall.
CONTROL PANEL -> SECURY CENTER. If this failed you can find other good firewallprograms on Internet. For example Comodo and Zone Alarm.

Comodo (Free)
Zone Alarm (Free version)

#3 Antivirus

AVG (Free)
Norman (Free trial)
Norton (Free trial)

Remember that trial versions has limited use, and your version must not expire during The Gathering.

If you think you may have a virus, and haven't installed an antivirusprogram, take a look on this housecall.trendmicro.com and scan your computer online. This can solve many problems related to installing of antivirusprogram and it's free.

#4 Spyware

As supplement to an antivirus software you should install a program that check if you got spyware installed or other programs.

Microsoft Defender (Requires licensed version of XP)
Ad-aware SE Personal Edition (Free)
Spybot S&D (Free)

Be sure that definition files to both the antivirus software and the spywareprogram is UPDATED before you search after virus/spyware!

#5 Make your computer ready for TG07

1) Set up a password for your Administrator-account.
You can change password here: Control panel -> User accounts.

2) Be sure that you don't share maps with full access without knowing it.

3) Check that Internet Connection Sharing is turned off. You find the regularization at CONTROL PANEL -> NETWORK CONNECTIONS . Right-click and choose PROPERTIES/ADVANCED on all connections, and check that "ALLOW OTHER NETWORK USERS TO CONNECT..." isn't checked.

If Internet Connection Sharing is turned on it can make that no one on your switch will be able to connect to the net.

4) Change browser.
Internet Explorer is like a door into your computer. Change browser to Opera or Firefox.
Firefox (Free)
Opera (Free)

5) Change e-mail-program.
At the same page as Firefox you can find the e-mail-program Thunderbird (mozilla.com). This is a great e-mail-program, that is less affected by virus than Outlook and Outlook Express.

#6 If you need to reinstall your operative system during the party

1) Take out your network cable (Very important!)

2) Reinstall OS.

3) Ask your neighbour if he can download security updates and burn it on a cd/floppy, so you can be completely protected before you put in the network cable again.

4) NB! Read through this list before you arrive TG07. Update your system and search it for virus.
