Download the last service pack for your operating system:
Windows 2000 SP4

When it's done, download security updates for your operating system.

When you installed service pack 2(SP2) for Windows XP, you got
Windows' firewall. We strongly recommend that you turn on the firewall.
CONTROL PANEL -> SECURY CENTER.
If this failed you can find other good firewallprograms on Internet. For example Comodo and Zone Alarm.

Remember that trial versions has limited use, and your version must not expire during The Gathering.
If you think you may have a virus, and haven't installed an antivirusprogram, take a look on this housecall.trendmicro.com and scan your computer online. This can solve many problems related to installing of antivirusprogram and it's free.
As supplement to an antivirus software you should install a program that check if you got spyware installed or other programs.

Be sure that definition files to both the antivirus software and the
spywareprogram is UPDATED before you search after virus/spyware!
1) Set up a password for your Administrator-account.
You can change password here: Control panel -> User accounts.
2) Be sure that you don't share maps with full access without knowing it.
3) Check that Internet Connection Sharing is turned off. You find the regularization at CONTROL PANEL -> NETWORK CONNECTIONS . Right-click and choose PROPERTIES/ADVANCED on all connections, and check that "ALLOW OTHER NETWORK USERS TO CONNECT..." isn't checked.
If Internet Connection Sharing is turned on it can make that no one on your switch will be able to connect to the net.
4) Change browser.
Internet Explorer is like a door into your computer. Change browser to Opera or Firefox.

5) Change e-mail-program.
At the same page as Firefox you can find the e-mail-program Thunderbird (mozilla.com).
This is a great e-mail-program, that is less affected by virus than Outlook and Outlook Express.
1) Take out your network cable (Very important!)
2) Reinstall OS.
3) Ask your neighbour if he can download security updates and burn it on a cd/floppy, so you can be completely protected before you put in the network cable again.
4) NB! Read through this list before you arrive TG07. Update your system and search it for virus.
